(Jon sez:) Deimos masses 1.8 x 1015 kilograms. The Empire State Building in New York masses 331,000 metric tons. It would take almost five and a half billion Empire State Buildings to equal the mass of Deimos. So moving it would require...er...carry the three...a lot of power. Back in the real world, where we're not tossing moons around like billiards, the European Space Agency's Venus Express probe will be starting its engine burn for capture at Venus on Tuesday. Venus is a strange planet, with winds hot enough to melt lead and acidic rain strong enough to dissolve steel. Learning more about it will help us to figure out what can go wrong (from a human point of view) with an Earthlike planet. |
(Mark sez:) I would have hoped that by 2148 humanity would have evolved beyond the IBM Selectric 101-key keyboard and X-Windows. Oh well. Contributor Talvin sent in this link to an animated Valles Marineris (on Mars) fly-through. Awesome! And we also have the honor to show you a new fan art by Didodikali. Double awesome! |
