(Jon sez:) When Benjamin says that running straight for Mars is suicide, he is referring to the fact that in order to aerobrake, you need to hit the atmosphere at a carefully determined angle. You can then bleed off velocity before you smack into the ground and/or burn up from hitting the lower atmosphere at too high a speed. If you run straight towards a planet - especially at the huge velocities at which the Qin is traveling - you will turn into a torch in the lower atmosphere and then impact the surface if you don't completely burn up, unless you can somehow slow down. Our next icon is Benjamin, looking very suave and self-confident.
(For those who need a reminder, since it has been a couple of months, Caprice said she wasn't desperate enough to crash into Mars on page 97.) |
(Mark sez:) When you're a comic artist you focus on the oddest little details. For example, I am so glad that Benjamin and Caprice are no longer sitting in those crash couches. It's surely obvious that I ran out of new ways of blocking that scene weeks ago. |
