Concept Art: Minor Characters
Serafina Quevillion is Caprice's aunt and the Martian ambassador to the Solar Parliament. Tall, cool, and elegant, her character concept was supposed to be "this is what Caprice will look like in twenty or thirty years." Not a bad deal, I think. Serafina's psyche is much more closely integrated with the Martian group mind than Caprice's is, and the glasses symbolize that somewhat by implying she's always acting as a conduit for Mars. Which is of course true.
Annoying information broker Taro Watanuki's original design was heavily cyberneticized in the Adam Warren fashion, but lost more and more of the implants and cybernetic junk as time went by until he ended up looking perfectly ordinary.
I was pleased at the introduction of mad scientist Beatriz Juruna because it let me re-use a favorite design from a previous project Jon and I were working on. As mad scientists go, Dr. Juruna is basically harmless... well, except for the chemical weapons in her kitchen, of course.
Mukhali "Manny" Delger is an unusual webcomic character because he's not twenty years old. Ahem... I'm kidding (sorta) but that was actually the foundation of the character's appearance that Jon gave to me. The concept I aimed for was a guy who could simultaneously look ominous on a wanted poster and quite innocuous in real life.
The holographic receptionist at Manny's consulting firm. Speaking as the artist of this comic, I'm going to have to say that the holo-receptionist is my personal favorite character. Well, she is.
