(Jon sez:) If there's a metaphor to be found in the spreading of immense wings of fire while one is falling, I can't find it. Oh, wait. Paradise Lost. Right. Our very last icon is Caprice, looking back over her shoulder. I hope you've enjoyed these icons, although frankly the only person I know who's using them is my wife...

(Mark sez:) Ever since I started doing comics with heavy CG work, I've always considered landscapes to be one of my major weaknesses. Getting a handle on coloring so much detail isn't easy. That's why I'm really proud of the Martian desert in the first panel. It may not seem special at first glance, but by my standards it's head and shoulders above all previous efforts. The odd color of the sun is inspired by this photo in visible light from the Mars Pathfinder rover. Due to the way light is scattered by the dust in the planet's atmosphere, on Mars sunsets can appear sky-blue. Plenty more photographs of the Martian sky from Pathfinder can be found right here. Oh yes, and how could I forget? The Whiteboard kindly linked to MoS earlier this week. And so I would just like to say: Thank you, The Whiteboard! |
