(Jon sez:) There is a car chase. Stuff explodes. I am content. |
(Mark sez:) You may have noticed that the art on this page looks rather different from the art on, say, the previous page. Basically, I have two different methods when it comes to finishing a page -- one of them is heavy on Photoshop effects, and one of them is heavy on pen and ink work. I'd like to say that I make the decision based on artistic merit, but that's not really true; rather, when there's a real or perceived lack of time, I go with a page that's mostly inked (such as today's.) Inking takes about the same amount of time no matter how much detail there is, while complex CG work can really add up. Plus, sitting in front of the computer for longer offers additional time to goof off and just delays things further. So that's the story. Incidentally, the only all-inks thing I've ever done that I think is really good is the first panel of this page of my old comic, No Headroom. The arcology and the cyberpunk city around it are all inks, for a fantastic high detail effect that is simply not possible using CG (or at least would take twenty times as long.) I would also like to note that all of the hunter-killer robots are up to proper Evil Overlord code: they are all rigged so that when they explode that one burning tire comes bouncing out of the wreck. Heh, I never get tired of that. Oh, I'm also pleased by the expression on Benjamin's face in the first panel, where he's realizing that (at least for a few seconds) Mars is who's holding on to him just a little bit tighter than is strictly necessary. |
