Mark sez: Here's a few words about MoS's concept art...

Concept Art: Main Characters

Looking at Benjamin Prester's concept art is pretty amusing to me now as he ended up looking almost nothing like his original design -- he got about fifteen years older, for one thing.

Caprice Quevillion by contrast has always been pretty close to her current design. The only real changes I made to the original concept were to make her a bit shorter and more tomboyish in appearance. The little sparkles are gems she has sewn through her hair.

Vorstellen Police chief Gustave Nyerere I never had much trouble with. His distinctive hair and mustache make him a snap to draw. His appearance was inspired a bit by the minor character of Chief Todo in the original Bubblegum Crisis, although Nyerere is far more level-headed.

Mad scientist and professional sinister presence Virgil Haas was originally going to be much older, with a vague resemblance to Giant Robo's Franken von Fogler. I couldn't make the design work, though, so I threw it out and went for the tried-and-true long-haired prettyboy route. Yes, his spiky hair was inspired a bit by Seymour from Final Fantasy X. The only major change his design got once the story began was a lot of piercings.

Every villain worth his salt needs two henchmen, one small and smart and one big and dumb, and intelligent robots Chaucer and Dryden serve in that role for Dr. Haas. Chaucer's been rattling around in my comics for years, so he was an easy call (ultimately he's a clone of Professor Ed's utility robot from Matt Howarth's Bugtown comics.) Dryden was originally going to be a giant tyrannosaur-like thing until I realized how hard that would be to draw.
